Bowen may shave off 'last 'tache at BBC'

TV presenter Jeremy Bowen is a whisker away from ditching his trademark ’tache, he revealed today.

The BBC Breakfast host, who was teased by his screen colleagues on the show, said he was thinking of shaving off his facial fuzz.

But he joked that the thick moustache should be preserved as ‘‘a historic relic of the Seventies’’.

The hardened former Middle East reporter was ribbed by fellow presenters after items about shavers and male grooming.

Bowen responded: ‘‘I often think about getting rid of it and perhaps I should.’’

Co-host Sophie Raworth told viewers: ‘‘He just told me that he’s going to do it tomorrow after the programme because he’s going on holiday.’’

Bowen responded: ‘‘If I did it it wouldn’t be on TV and I wouldn’t tell you lot.’’

BBC sports pundit and former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson recently got rid of his ’tache, which was one of the most famous on TV.

Bowen added: ‘‘Now Mark Lawrenson has got rid of his, this is the only moustache left on the BBC. I think it should be preserved as a historic relic of the Seventies.’’
