I love pine forests, says Jarvis Cocker

Jarvis Cocker says he loves Scotland's pine forests, where Pulp will play a gig next month.

The band will perform at Roseisle Forest near Elgin on June 21.

It is one of five shows Pulp are playing in woodlands this summer.

Cocker said: "A pine forest is my favourite forest because it's so silent when you walk through one of them. It's quite spooky and a very nice smell."

He says he has found growing his own tree an enlightening experience.

"I'm growing a fig tree at the moment," said Cocker.

"It started off as just a twig but now it's about three feet high."

"Everybody wants everything to be instant nowadays, so seeing how a tree develops gradually over the years is a good reminder that not everything can be like that - sometimes it's better to put down roots and take your time."
