Richard Madeley has demanded more sex on screen and complained that television is not raunchy enough.

The host of Channel 4's Richard & Judy says it is "ludicrous" that erections are banned from British TV.

He made the comments on tonight's show.

He said: "Frankly, I don't think that what we see on television is erotic enough. I haven't seen a sex scene on television recently that has remotely turned me on."

He joked: "And I've been there till 4am waiting for it."

The presenter, chairing a debate entitled 'Is There Too Much Sex on TV?', said: "If there's meant to be an erotic encounter between two, or three, or four people as part of a proper drama then I want to see that on screen."

Madeley said it was "sexist" that images of naked women can be shown on TV but erections are strictly out of bounds.

"I have a view about erections on television and I think it's ludicrous that they shouldn't be shown in the right context," he said.

"I think it's actually sexist that men are allowed to see... any of a woman's sexual organs in the right context but you can't show a man in a state of arousal. You should have at least the possibility of seeing that."

Judy Finnigan also complained that ITV1's remake of the Sixties drama The Forsythe Saga isn't sexy enough.

"I think that The Forsythe Saga is far less sexually explicit than the original BBC version. I don't think there's enough sex in it, because there's no sexual relationship between those people at all and you just don't believe it," she said.
