Robert De Niro tops list of Greatest stars

Robert De Niro has been named the Greatest Star in a poll of film fans.

De Niro topped the list compiled by FilmFour.

Al Pacino was in second place, followed by Kevin Spacey, Jack Nicholson and Sean Connery.

The top female star was Jodie Foster at number 23.

Tom Cruise only just reached the top 50, at number 49. He was beaten by the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Travolta and Ewan McGregor.

FilmFour.com editor Dominic Eames said: "In light of The 100 Greatest Films, interest in film lists is riding high. We had a fantastic number of votes and it's fascinating to now see which particular actors are the public's favourites."

A total of 13,500 people voted in the poll.
