Brian Harvey 'attacked with an axe'
Former East 17 star Brian Harvey was attacked with an axe or a machete as he left a nightclub early today.
He had been promoting The Works nightclub in Nottingham.
Police say he was leaving the club with two local girls when he was approached by four or five mixed-race men.
Detective Inspector Dave Hoare said: "At this stage we do not know what the motive was.
"There was an altercation during which Mr Harvey was struck on the back of the head causing him a serious injury. It could have been with an axe, a knife or a machete. We do not know at this stage."
Mr Harvey was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre for emergency treatment before later being transferred to Nottingham's City Hospital. It is understood he has undergone a skin graft operation to his head.
A statement released by The Works nightclub said: "Security door staff acted quickly to help contain the incident, but the assailants ran off before they could reach Mr Harvey.
"They helped him back to The Works and into the first aid room, where first aid was administered."
The statement went on to say an ambulance was called, arriving within two minutes, and police were alerted.
It added: "The Works wish Mr Harvey a very speedy recovery. First Leisure is dedicated to providing an enjoyable night out and will co-operate fully with the police to help apprehend his attackers."
