Harrison song to be re-released for charity

George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord is to be re-released as a tribute to the late Beatle.

The song is expected to be rushed into shops following the death of the star just a week ago, although no date has been set for release.

His track was the first solo number one for any of the Beatles when it originally topped the charts in January 1971.

It was one of the most successful releases of his career, taken from his biggest selling album All Things Must Pass.

Deeply-spiritual Harrison spent his life looking for meaning and was a follower of the Hare Krishna faith, even including a section of their mantra on the track.

A source at EMI records, which handles releases on the Beatles label Apple, confirmed that the track would be issued.

Further details of tracklisting and even the charity that will benefit from the single are still to be announced.

Harrison was taken to court for copyright infringement for the song because of similarities to The Chiffons’ track He’s So Fine.
