GPS tagged self-locking luggage on the rise

Bluesmart, one of several companies breaking into the smart luggage industry, has started another round of crowdfunding via IndieGoGo to release an improved version of their intelligent suitcases.

They offer two models, a carry on case and a larger check case.

Both cases offer GPS tracking and self-locking that engages if the suitcase strays more than a short distance from its owner.

In addition, the carry on model features a built-in battery for charging devices in flight.

Bluesmart claims it can fully charge a laptop in 2.5 hours. As regulators crack down on batteries for fear of explosions, Bluesmart may have to cut or redesign this feature.
