Scene and heard: The latest entertainment news

Arcade Fire’s new album, Everything Now, will be out on July 28, while big releases today include new records from Lorde and Fleet Foxes. Cork vinyl buyers have seen their choice of retail outlets proliferate, but sad news came this week with the announcement that Plugd in the Triskel is to close, along with its sister cafe Gulpd. The arts centre has yet to announce what will fill the space that will be vacated by the tenants of six years, but the people behind Plugd have raised the possibility that they will open elsewhere.
Sounds From A Safe Harbour in Cork in September has added further to what already looks like an excellent line-up with the news that Bon Iver will play the city’s Opera House on September 15. Justin Vernon and co are mates with the Dessner brothers from The National, whose gig the following night has already sold out. Tickets for Bon Iver go on sale on Wednesday, at €40 +bf. In the meantime, the Marquee is the centre of the musical universe in Cork at the moment, with upcoming gigs including Jenny Greene and the RTE Concert Orchestra (Sat-Sun); Elton John (Tues) and Elbow (Weds). On a smaller scale, Cyprus Avenue has Fish Go Deep tomorrow, and the Wedding Present on Sunday. Dublin has the Pride Block Party outdoors at the Tivoli tomorrow, with a bill that includes Daithi and Swedish Eurovision entrant Loreen.
