The shape I'm in: Louise Duffy, radio presenter
LIFE couldn’t be better for Louise Duffy. The Mayo native broadcasts Lost in Music, on Today FM, Monday to Friday from 7pm to 9pm, and is in her element.
“I’ve moved about quite a bit in the schedule but, finally, the show that I’m doing now feels the most natural. I think you have to do something that feels right especially in radio.
"If you try to fit a circle into a square hole — being something you are not — that’s very evident,” she says.
“It doesn’t feel like work because I’m sharing my true interest and my love of music. I know so many people who are doing jobs they’ve no interest in. I’m absolutely thankful to have an opportunity to do something that I love.”
At home, Louise is also feeling the love. She is married to Paul Galvin, the celebrated former Kerry footballer who is now a men’s fashionwear designer for Dunnes Stores.
Given her huge interest in fashion, there’s always plenty to talk about at home.
“I just love clothes and love shoes. It’s my greatest indulgence. But there’s never been a competition [between us] because he is doing it professionally and l really love his style and hopefully it’s the same visa versa.’’
* Louise Duffy is an ambassador for Cleanmarine For Women, which helps to reduce the symptoms of PMS.
At the moment I feel quite fit. I workout maybe three or four times a week. I like to do spin classes — my favourite form of exercise at the moment — and maybe a HIIT (high intensity interval training) session.
I try to eat healthily during the week — weekends I can enjoy myself a little bit more if I feel I’ve been good during the week.
I work evenings in Today FM, so I’ve no excuse not to nip over to the gym in the mornings.
I love breakfast — it’s my main meal because I work evenings. I would have omelettes or pancakes. When I go to work, I would try to keep it healthy for the rest of the day.
For lunchtime, I would aim to have a salad and I would have a soup or a smoothie in the evenings. I might snack on nuts and fruit during the day.
I always have dark chocolate — the darker the better — in the fridge. I’ll have a square here and there, then, all of a sudden, it’s gone. Lindt’s Salted Caramel is always the one in the fridge.
At the moment there’s nothing really bothering me. I try to detach from worrying about work and things that are out of my control. Once my husband and my family are all fine everything else seems trivial.
Lately, particularly since I started doing the evening show, I really like to unwind with a bath when I get home. I light some candles and use salts and lavender oils etc. It really helps me to unwind and to sleep well.
Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David and Rickey Gervais. l love comedy and they are three of my favourites.
I’ve always adored the smell of my wonderful mum’s perfume. I suppose it’s a comfort thing. It’s by Hermés — she’s worn it for years.
Plenty. The main thing at the moment is my feet. I’ve worn high heels for years and years — the higher the better — and my poor feet are like hooves as a result.
There is no pedicure that can fix them. If I had a magic wand I’d restore my poor feet. They’ve got character, let’s just say that.
A couple of weeks ago, when my brother Brian rang to tell me I had a new niece called Ava. She’s a darling. We’re all obsessed.
I would find it difficult to deal with people who are arrogant, people who have an over-inflated sense of their own importance.
Plenty. One that stands out is that I’m a tad overzealous about cleanliness and tidiness in my home to the point of almost colour-coding wardrobes and ironing for hours on end.
It’s probably no joke for my husband. My parents came to stay this weekend and I was like a demon going around the house cleaning.
I do. I was raised in a Catholic family and that stayed with me. I don’t go to church every Sunday but, in my own way, I do pray.
I love getting home from work to my husband.
