Kasabian are a throwback to when preening ridiculousness was part of every rock band’s job description. They write songs about vampires and dinosaurs and have a lead singer whose on the road excesses extend to an unquenchable habit for Monster Munch snacks.

In the very healthiest sense they are the anti-Radiohead and, given the sorry condition of contemporary rock, their ludicrousness feels authentically rebellious.

The group are about to release their sixth studio album, For Crying Out Loud and, by way of celebration, have embarked on a tour of smaller-scale venues. Given that they headlined Glastonbury in 2014 and are regulars at Dublin’s 14,000 capacity 3Arena, the Olympia was indeed an intimate space in which to witness the band, and they filled it with fervour and bite.
