Something for the weekend...

At 4.30pm today the Gate Cinema will show the animated film Ma Vie de Courgette (My Life as a Courgette) about a group of children who meet up in an orphanage.

The festival closes tomorrow with the screening of Mal de Pierres (From the Land of the Moon) at the Gate Cinema which stars Marion Cotillard and Louis Garrel.

2. Election Fever

For the first time ever on the Cork stage, John B Keane’s The Successful TD comes to city’s Opera House on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The play follows the trials, tribulations, and misadventures of Tull McAdoo’s re-election to the Dáil in the “October Elections”.

Starring Jon Kenny and Mary McEvoy, the show starts at 8pm and tickets are from €26.

3. Cruise Control

Dublin Bay Cruises will resume sailings for the 2017 season on St Patrick’s Day, offering an alternative transport option to families and festival goers alike.

The 96 passenger ferry, St. Bridget, will depart from Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in the city centre at 11am each day and will sail to Howth (via Dun Laoghaire).

The ferry has a full bar and cafe on board. Prices start from €22 per person (€55 for a family of four).

4. Game for a Laugh

Irish comics are getting involved in Comic Relief for the first time with an event on St Patrick’s night at the 3Arena.

Spearheaded by comedian Deirdre O’Kane and TV producer Darren Smith, Paddy’s Night in Support of Comic Relief will feature a who’s who of the Irish comedy scene including Tommy Tiernan, Dara O’Briain, Jason Byrne, Des Bishop, Bernard O’Shea, PJ Gallagher and Al Porter.

5. Junior GAA Stars

The GAA Museum at Croke Park has a new Junior Explorers Tour for young families on Saturday mornings running until April 29.

The tour starts with a meet and greet with mascot, Cluasóg the Irish hare, and includes all the behind-the-scenes tours you would expect, as well as extras such as badges and passports.

Tours start from 10.30am and last about 1.5 hours. Family prices from €38.
