Galaxy Note 7 might embrace USB-C

Samsung has been resistant to add a USB Type-C port to its phones so far, but that may soon change. Leaked images and a video indicate that Samsung has a branded USB-C cable in the works.

Galaxy Note 7 might embrace USB-C

Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn got its hands on resources that show a Samsung-branded cable. This cable’s packaging features the model number EP-DN930CWE, something that indicates that it could be designed for the Galaxy Note 7 (SM-N930).

Samsung has argued that the market isn’t ready for USB-C just yet. It’s also made the argument that its handsets already offer fast charging, rendering that element of the cable null and void. However, USB-C is more convenient as it is reversible, meaning you won’t run into the issue of trying to connect it upside down.

There’s always the possibility that the cable and/or packaging is fake. But then again, USB-C is being picked up by competitors and Samsung will want to keep one eye on the future; for example, it will want the Gear VR to be compatible with future handsets and a listing for a new headset recently appeared on an import database.
