VIDEO Real footage of Jupiter and its moons

Something incredible is happening out near Jupiter right now...

No that's not a line from 2001, but something very real as NASA's Juno craft moves into the shadow of the largest planet in the solar system, five years after starting its journey.

It's a pretty amazing thing to consider a scrappy human craft winging its way 370 million miles to take a gander at a true giant. And you can see what that approach looked like in a stunning time lapse captured by Juno over a number of weeks from the 12th to the 29th of June, 2016.

These are actual photos taken of Jupiter and its surrounding moons Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto in motion, the orbiting bodies disappearing in the shadow of the massive planet, the movements of the inner moons faster. Just let that sink in for a moment, the enormity of being able to view this footage as you sit at your desk or browse on your phone.
