Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon Runner of the week: Sarah Peters

No, this is my fifth marathon. I started running in 2011. Since then, I finished the Cologne marathon a couple of times, Hamburg once. But the most impressive and most challenging experience was by far the Loch Ness marathon which my running team (which consists of my two aunts, two close friends and me) ran two years ago. We are running the Cork marathon together.
I love to travel and I love to run. So doing things both at the same time, seems to be the perfect way to spend my time! I love to explore new countries and cities. I think there is no better way to get to know a city than by foot, running. I have never been to Ireland and I am really excited about it!
I follow a 12 -week training program. I run 50-80 Kilometres per week. Usually I do my long runs on Sundays. During the week, I like to squeeze in a 10k every other morning before work.
I try to eat as healthy as I can, but if I am craving a burger, a coke or other unhealthy stuff, I do give in.
The last few kilometers to finish a long run, are the most painful. But I have learned that these last few kilometers are also the most interesting ones and I try to enjoy them as much as I can.
Running long distance is all about not quitting. Thats my advice: Do not quit. Even if it hurts, if you’re hungry and you feel like you cannot take another step. Yes, you can and you will. You just have to find the beauty in it.
