The centenary sale by Fonsie Mealy at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin today is in a venue that is just a stone’s throw from the epicentre of the Easter Rising and contains much memorabilia of that historic time.
Included are the keys to the GPO, the proclamation that was placed in the GPO and a silver dish ring given as a wedding present to Terence MacSwiney, the Republican lord mayor of Cork who died on hunger strike in Brixton Prison.
Around 400 lots will come under the hammer at the Lynes and Lynes sale in Carrigtwohill at 11am today.
There is art, antique furniture, silverware, mirrors, clocks and a framed Cork jersey and hurley signed by the All-Ireland champions, 1999.
There will be an antique and collectors sale at Cork Auction Rooms at 12pm tomorrow. Viewing is from 10am to 6pm today and from 9am tomorrow.
Pub interiors, garden furniture and effects will come under the hammer at RJ Keighery’s sale at the City Auction Rooms in Waterford at 2 pm next Monday. Viewing continues from 12pm to 5pm today and tomorrow.
Tullamore Court Hotel is the venue for the Midlands Antique Fair from 11am to 6pm tomorrow. Hibernian Antique Fairs will bring over 30 dealers to Tullamore for the event.
An exhibition by Jesse Jones, who will represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2017, is at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin until June.
Born in Dublin in 1978 Jones turns her attention to feminism in Ireland in a show entitled No More Fun and Games.
In Oldcastle, Co Meath Matthews will hold an auction with more than 650 lots at 6.30pm next Tuesday.
