Furniture and art sale at Lynes and Lynes in Carrigtwohill

Des O’Sullivan looks ahead to a sale of quality furniture in Carrigtwohill.

A LARGE wooded landscape which is attributed to the British-born artist Richard Wilson (1714-1782) and six Georgian Cork nine-bar chairs are among the art and furniture lots at Lynes and Lynes next Saturday at 11am.

Viewing in Carrigtwohill for this sale of 400 lots from residences throughout Cork city and county is from 10am to 8pm next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Wilson is estimated at €2,000-€3,000. The same North Cork house yielded a painting of the Holy Family with St John the Baptist after Carraci (€600-€800) and a still life by Mabel Young (1889-1974) the second wife of Paul Henry. It is estimated at €300-€500.

The stylish Cork nine-bar chairs are estimated at €1,000-€1,500.

Antique furniture includes a c1860 French kingwood bonheur du jour with porcelain plaques (€1,000-€1,500) and a pine kitchen table (€200-€400).

There is a framed Cork jersey and hurley signed by the All Ireland champions of 1999.

The selection of 40 lots of books includes a number of other original editions.

Four paperback editions of The Fighting Story told by the men who made it — Dublin, Kerry, Limerick and Cork — are estimated at €250-€350.

Other lots include a pair of Irish Georgian berry spoons by Samuel Neville Dublin 1814 (€80-€150), a stylish Waterford Crystal nine branch chandelier (€600-€1,000), a club fender, rugs, gilt mirrors as well as a number of clocks.
