Could you stand more than a minute in a shopping centre?

For an autistic child it can be terrifying.

The UK’s leading charity for autism, The National Autistic Society, has released a new video to help understand autism.

"I’m not naughty. I’m autistic.

"For autistic people like me, the world can be a terrifying place. Sometimes sounds feel like my head is exploding. Clothes feel like my skin is burning. And when a tiny thing changes, it feels like my world is ending.

"Sometimes I get too much information. And if you only see a naughty kid, you haven’t got enough."

They recommend to take time, make space and imagine what it’s like for a person who is feeling overwhelmed.

The official figure for Ireland is 1 in 100 people have autism.
