Little Molly is thoroughly excited about her holiday around Ireland with her parents. The first stop is Christ Church Cathedral and what a noise those pigeons make outside the old church doors.
Then on to Dublin Zoo and from there they set off to see the wonders around the rest of Ireland. What interesting places Molly sees - castles and cliffs, boats and mountains, ending in Belfast to see the amazing Titanic.
Beautifully illustrated and perfectly child-friendly, the book ends with a glossary of the places Molly and her parents visited. A treasure to keep.
If this version of Macbeth doesn’t grab the attention of young readers nothing will.
The story of the play, told in simple language, has to play second fiddle to pot-girl Mary’s account of the goings-on off-stage at an annual performance in the White Swan Inn. We meet the actors as they come off stage to wipe pig’s blood off swords and knives. Mary is run ragged
between keeping 100 customers’ tankards refilled during the intervals and mopping blood off the stage after every foul deed by Macbeth.
Our interest is continually heightened by the audience, and even by the comments of the surly inn-keeper Master Fulbright. Mary befriends the boy who is playing Lady Macbeth and begs him to let her join the troupe of actors as pot-girl.
She takes take a leaf out of Lady Macbeth’s book by setting a goal that she will not give up on. Advice on writing is an added bonus. Age 8+
