If your shadow is longer than you are tall, you are not getting enough vitamin D from the sun, as sisters Katie Mae (10), and Ellie (8) O’Sullivan discovered when they did the shadow test at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Essential for bone health due to its role in calcium regulation, vitamin D is mainly produced from exposure to sunlight.
Many Irish people need to increase Vitamin D intake through diet or a supplement, especially in winter.
Vitamin D is found in a small range of foods including oily fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods like supermilk or breakfast cereals.
