Beginner’s Pluck: Rosie Nixon

“I started on work experience, then I got a job as an assistant editor, and was then editor of children’s books. I stayed there for three years.”

She then moved to magazine journalism, starting as editor of Barbie magazine moving on to work on Bliss magazine, then New Woman, Red, Glamour and then Grazia, working on each as the celebrity editor.

She has been editor of Hello magazine for the past seven years.

“I love my job. No two weeks are the same. You get tremendous access to some very big names; they trust us with their personal life, and we react to news as it breaks.” However she did miss writing.

“I’ve always dreamt of writing a novel. I was spurred on by my sister in law who is now my literary agent. She didn’t like my initial idea, so I came up with a stylist. Amber has bits of me in her. I’ve seen the Oscars and Baftas first hand. I’ve done celebrity shoots in Los Angeles. The writing just flowed. It was total escapism.”

The Debut

The Stylist: Harper Collins, €17.99/Kindle, €7.52

One minute, Amber Green is a lowly assistant stylist in a high- end boutique; the next she’s assistant to Mona Armstrong, stylist to the stars. The job offer was a mistake, and her escapades, as she runs around red carpets, are hilarious.

The Verdict: A beautifully written, laugh-out-loud page-turner, with insight into the celebrity world.
