POOL PLAYERS: Swim Ireland’s third Swim for a Mile Challenge will take place in 12 pools nationwide during the first week of April.

The challenge involves 12 weeks of training and is open to swimmers of all abilities, once they can swim two lengths of the pool.

Participants will have access to an online training programme, as well as advice from Swim Ireland coaches at participating pools, including Leisureworld Bishopstown, Cork, and UL Sport, Limerick.

Swim Ireland has opened the programme to 12- to 16-year-olds this year.

MARCH HARE:

Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation launched its Hare Trail this week (Monday, January 18) with 110 colourful hares going on display around Dublin City.

The “Hares on the March” campaign builds on the success of the charity’s previous Cow Parade, Big Egg Hunt, and Pig Parade, with the art pieces designed to raise money to fund home nursing care for sick children, while also raising awareness for the artists involved.

The hares will be auctioned in March and in the meantime, families can have fun finding them on the free trail and entering competitions on www.jackandjill.ie.

Locations include Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Arnotts and Easons, where you can pick up a trail brochure which has all the locations and a map to follow.
