But today, the Howth Unit got an unusual Mayday distress call from a man who was after falling from his sleigh over Dollymount Beach.

It was, of course, none other than Santa Claus.

Santa told the Coast Guard that Dancer, his reindeer, had got the hiccups on the way down from the North Pole and before he knew it all the reindeer had the hiccups.

This caused a few stability issues for Santa and his sleigh and he fell out onto Dollymount Beach, where thankfully he had a soft landing on the dunes.

The Coast Guard were quick to his rescue and not only that, they were able to help Santa with his work.

They helped Santa make his way to Temple Street Children's Hospital where the man in red had gifts for the boys and girls.

And what of the reindeer?

The Coast Guard Helicopter had spotted them in the Phoenix Park and after Santa was finished in the hospital he was reunited with his herd of reindeers.
