21-year-old Kerry business student, Shannon Lonergan, was contacted by her doppelganger Sara Nordstrom, who is 17 and attends a boarding school in Orebro, Sweden, via the website Twin Strangers which is based on the idea that everyone in the world has seven doppelgangers who look identical to them.
When the pair met in Dublin, Shannon said the similarity between them ’frightened’ her, and even her dad did a double take.
Shannon, who had signed up to the site in the summer, told the Daily Mail: "When my dad first saw myself and Sara he did not know where to look. He kept looking at her than me and looked so confused.
"His facial expressions were hilarious and showed how shocked he was. He honestly needed a moment to see who was who."
Shannon’s family also struggled to spot the difference between them.
The Kerry native, who hadn’t checked the site for a while, got a shock to find there was a match, and an even bigger shock when she finally met her.
She said: "When I opened the door and saw Sara standing there, literally my heart jumped into my mouth.
"We had the exact same expressions, pout, smile. It’s so weird.
"Once I saw Sara’s face I felt my butterflies disappear."
