Well known for it’s rusty colour, the planet Mars, has many similarities to earth as well as the obvious differences.

Mars is 6792 kilometres in diameter, making it half the size of earth.

Like earth, one day on Mars is also 24 hours and the planet also experiences four seasons with a six month summer and highs of 20 degrees celsius. However, the planet’s average temperature is much colder at -45 degrees celsius.

NASSA is now planning to send people to Mars by 2039 which would take 6 months for a manned vessel to reach. Mars has just ten percent of the earth’s mass and 37 percent of earth’s gravity which would cause human muscles to waste away in just nine days.

The atmosphere on Mars in 95 percent Carbon Dioxide making it impossible for human life.

Up to 14 percent of the soil on Mars contains Iron Oxide, which is responsible for giving the planet it’s rusty red colour.
