Scene + Heard: Entertainment news round up

Easily one of the most interesting guitar-based outfits to emerge from the Irish scene in recent years, in ways it’s a shame that the head of steam they’ve built up since the release of their debut album may dissipate somewhat; on the other hand, a resolution of the unspecified ‘health issues’ that caused the cancellation is far more important than any stab at stardom.

Meanwhile,
has flirted with films before, but moves up a level by joining the likes of and in the cast of Luc Besson’s new sci-fi adventure, . We won’t see it until at least 2017.is in Vicar Street in Dublin tonight and has also announced a return to these fair shores for a gig at Cork Opera House on February 25. The Sheffield-born former member of Pulp is touring on the back of his recently-released Hollow Meadows album.
Triskel had one of the better lineups of the jazz festival, and the cutting edge continues with a weekend of boundary-pushing music from the hugely-respected German label
(Nov 27-29).and her Quercus project are probably the best known of the artists, while Arve Henriksen is among the most respected of the contemporary crop of Nordic jazz musicians. It won’t all be the most accessible of music, but some may be among the most interesting you’ll hear all year.
Also in Triskel,
will launch their debut album, Os, next Thursday. As you’d probably expect from a Dublin-based band with a Cork cello player (Kevin Murphy), there’s a distinctly Finnish folk flavour to the album.is the biggie in Dublin next weekend, with an incredible dance-orientated lineup featuring the likes of The Roots, Giorgio Moroder, Hot Chip, Jamie XX and Mark Ronson.
While
kicks off its feast of cinema next Friday, one of the less well-known strands of the event is an impressive music lineup. One of the most interesting could be avant garde British act teaming up with animation artist next Saturday for a performance at the Theatre Development Space in Triskel.The same venue will host a number of other live and DJ events through the festival, including a session of live improvised scores for a series of rarely-seen Cork films from the 1910-1940 era.

will launch her debut thriller, Madame Lune, at Cork City Library next Thursday.Firkin Crane in Cork tonight hosts
