Cork to Boston flights: Ten great places to visit in Cork

Yesterday we shared the best things to do in Boston. Today we’re changing route and showing off the best of Cork. Each is just a short journey from Cork Airport.

1. Climb Shandon and soak up the views

Watching over the city from its perch on Cork’s northside, Shandon offers some of the best views of the city.

2. Enjoy some traditional hand-made Irish sweets

In the shadow of Shandon steeple, you’ll find Shandon Sweets, a family-run traditional sweet factory which has been open since 1928.

Call in to sample some of their tasty treats, inclusing clove rocks, bullseyes, butter nuggets and more. If you’re lucky, they might even be making a fresh batch when you stop by.

3. Brave the heights and kiss the Blarney Stone

We’re certain it’s mandatory for visitors to Cork to kiss the Blarney Stone.

Climb to the top of the castle, join the queue, kiss the stone and be bestowed with the ’gift of the gab’ - the ability to be able to talk to anyone about anything.

Trust us, it will serve you well - especially in Cork.

4. Give in to your wild side at Fota Wildlife Park

Get up close and personal with some of the exotic animals at Fota.

Be careful though, the peacocks will probably try to swipe your sandwiches.

Cork is a perfect place to spend a day shopping.

Explore the shops along Patrick’s Street, Oliver Plunket Street, Opera Lane, and everywhere in between and continue your shopping spree by taking a short bus trip to a shopping centre such as Blackpool, Wilton or Mahon Point.

6. Stroll through the English Market

Ancient stone circles, colourful towns and stunning views are just some of the reasons you should spend a day exploring West Cork.

8. Go to the beach

There are some very beautiful beaches in Cork. Swim in the Atlantic at Inchydoney (pictured) while you’re checking out West Cork.

9. Visit Cobh, the last port of call for the Titanic

Step back in time at Cobh, the last stop for the ill-fated Titanic in 1912.

After you visit the Titanic Experience and the Cobh Heritage Centre, take a boat across to Spike Island, the Irish Alcatraz.
