WATCH: Little girl slips through security to share wonderful moment with Pope Francis
The Pope, who is on a visit to the US, was parading down Washington DC’s National Mall when five-year-old Sophie Cruz slipped inside the barriers.
As burly security men tried to move her on from the scene, the pontiff cried out for the girl to be brought over him in the Popemobile. After greeting the Pope with a hug, Sophie presented him with a t-shirt and a drawing she had made for him.
Sophie is the daughter of two undocumented immigrants and her drawing read, "My friends and I love each other no matter our skin color."
Her family hope that the act will highlight what they say is the need for US immigration policy reform, as there are fears Sophie’s parents may be deported from the country.
Pope Francis is currently on a six-day visit to the US, taking in the cities of Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York.
After meeting President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle yesterday, the Pope also got to meet the famous White House dogs Bo and Sunny.
