VIDEO: Rare frog rediscovered after being declared extinct in 1996

The frog is extremely rare and is very hard to spot, so much so that back in 1996 it was declared extinct.

However, one was recently rediscoverd in the Hula Valley in northern Israel. The Hula Valley is the only known habitat of the amphibian.

A hula painted frog hasn’t been collected from the wild since the 1950s.

It is though that a small population managed to survive undetected when the valley’s marshes were drained to fight malaria.

With the ecological damage to the region since being reversed it is hoped the Hula painted frog population can make a full recovery.
