Big price for Enigma coder

The machine sold for more than double the €100,000 that it was expect to fetch at a London auction hosted by Sotheby’s earlier this week. The machine, dating from 1943, was sold by a European museum foundation.

Another Enigma machine sold for almost €250,000 in April. The coding machines were vital to the Nazi war effort but the Allies broke the codes — a feat said to have shortened the war by several years.
