VIDEO: Robbie Keane’s famous World Cup goal was 13 years ago today
With a freindly against England and a crucial qualifier against Scotland, the stakes are high.
But 13 years ago today there was another monumental day in Irish football.
The year was 2002 and in the Kashima Soccer Stadium in Japan a powerful German side came up against an underdog in Ireland.
92 minutes of football had been played, the Boys in Green were one-nil down, before Robbie Keane ensured his name would remian in the history books with a famous last minute equaliser.
The woes of Saipan were put behind the Irish side and qualification from the group seemed very real. And it proved to be.
Keane ended up being one of only two players to score against Oliver Kahn in that World Cup, the other of course being Ronaldo in the final.

As memorable as the goal was Mick McCarthy's reaction, mirroring a nation of fans going mad in their living rooms.
A superb moment, 13 years ago today.
