Most of us probably did it - filled a shoebox with goodies such as sweets, gloves, a toothbrush and small toys to be sent off to a less fortunate child in another country.
But how many of us found out exactly where our box ended up?
Yesterday, Galway woman Claire Fahy received a message out of the blue from the now-grown up child that received the shoebox she sent
Writing on Facebook, she explains what happened:
"When I was 8 years old I wrote this note and put it inside a shoebox filled with crayons, gloves, a toothbrush and loads of other bits and it got sent off to children in disadvantaged countries.
"This morning, 16 years later, I got a message from a man in Armenia to say he's been searching for me for years to thank me for his gift box. He took a picture of the note and sent it with his message. This is amazing."
That man is Arsen Khachatryan and he ended up finding Claire through Facebook. He wrote her a message explaining who he was and why he wanted to get in touch.
We complain about social media but sometimes it leads to stories like this one. Amazing.
