Mothers and Fathers Matter release video asking voters to ’Make up your own mind’
"This is a crucially important referendum on marriage and children, so I'll listen to the arguments, check the facts and then I'll make up my own mind, thanks very much"
This is the message from a video which has been launched by the Mothers and Fathers Matter group, who are campaigning for the Irish people to vote no in the upcoming Marriage Equality Referendum.
"On May 22, we are all being asked to vote on the referendum for same sex marriage and I think it's very important that we all get out and vote.
"But here's the thing, I want to make up my own mind on this issue because there is a lot to this referendum. It's a major change to our society."
The effects that the marriage equality referendum will have on children is one of the most contested topics between both sides at the moment especially around the issues of surrogacy and adoption.
"I don't like the idea of babies being made to order or children being deliberatley deprived of a mum or a dad.
"I know civil partnership already gives gay couples the right to say I do so why are we rushing to change the meaning of marriage..."
The video addresses the 'bullying and name calling' which has been happening on social media.
"You should be able to have reservations about gay marriage without being called a homophobe and it's really important that we all get to make up our own minds on this matter.
"The name calling, the mobs on twitter, the personal abuse, people are even being threatened!"
