THE standard hip-hop cliches do not apply to Steve Markowitz, aka best-selling rapper, Hoodie Allen. He didn’t grow up in a ghetto; he is from the middle class suburbs of Long Island. He worked at Google as a software developer. A stereotypical ‘gangsta’ he isn’t.

“My story isn’t the one that the foundations of hip-hop are typically built on,” says the 26-year-old.
