Top 10 Action Scenes of 2013
I understand the year isn’t quite yet through. And with contenders and yet to enter the ring, this list may become redundant in the coming weeks. And if so I’ll happily update this piece. But I don’t hold out much hope for that.I want to emphasis, this IS a list of the year’s greatest action movies. Far from it*. This just catalogues the most dynamic, most kinetic, most ‘Holy-Balls-did-you-just-see-that’ sequences of 2013.*Example, has so many good bits it’s too hard to snare just one. on the other hand…The action in never bothered to strain itself beyond ‘passable’. Except… Spurred on by the iconic theme, the gigantic dispatches waves of police cars with increasingly inventive (not to mention violent) means. Case in point – Lawnmower projectile!
Then he shoots falls to earth despite a distinct lack of gravity...
Stale, shallow and sloppy. But also hella pacy! sole redeeming feature: Midway through an otherwise sedate Statham flick, an uncommonly brutal bathroom barney breaks out. One combatant is half suffocated while the business end of a cistern lid is employed generously to the other’s face. Then a knife gets whipped out. But , you know, is .
The Interview scene epitomizes , teasing a unique notion before launching into an elaborate rapid fire war of fists and feet. With choreographing this comes as no surprise. But unusual vicious streak is a welcome break from the norm…
And then they had to go and follow it up with Some fans were disappointed by the lack of (aka Man IN Iron) in ’s billion dollar sequel. Others, rightly, bemoan the sudden fragility of both the troops and Tony’s unmanned chassis.
But this doesn’t detract from the year’s most inventive action sequence. War atop a collapsing ship-yard as a handful of human combatants struggle to keep a battalion of uh, at bay as a legion of synced exoskeletons provide cover fire is only the half of it. Tony leaps into and ejects out of suits with gleeful abandon. Suits split into constituent missiles and thunder into foes. troops hurl shards of rebar like new-age lances. And that’s all before wins the day or the shows up for the best bait and switches I’ve seen in many a year!
