I am a woman in my 50s and an enthusiastic gardener. Over the last few months I have spent a lot of time kneeling while replanting my garden, I now have two sore and swollen knees. A friend suggested I might have housemaid’s knee!

Housemaid’s knee or prepatellar bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa, a small fluid filled sac at the front of the knee (but not involving the knee joint); movement of the joint is not usually affected.
