heartbreaking
Seven-year-old Grace from Ballymote is heartbroken that her local library might be closed, and she has penned a lovely letter begging for it to be saved.

The text in full:
"To Madam or Sir,
"Please don't close Ballymote Library, because everyone loves it. We do music there and get lovely books.
"Louise, Bridy and Bernadette are very nice and friendly too.
"If you do lots of Ballymote's residents will get upset and they really might cry! It is one of the best librarys [sic] I have ever seen.
"The fourth class go to music too. Every time we go there are about ten people there. I am sure residents from other towns come and that might be the only library they know.
"I have read about two hundred books in that place! These are the top five books: Ottoline Goes to School, Helen Keller, Courage in the Dark, Meanwhile, Kittens and Puppies and Bugs.
"Please don't close our library.
"Yours siccrly, Grace
age seven."
Grace's daddy, Dermot, says it was Grace's own decision to write the letter.
"Grace wrote this herself, with no prompting or assistance from anyone, she felt it was something important that she needed to do.
"There have been previous attempts to curtail and/ or close the Ballymote library service, and these have been thwarted or reversed by people power. But this is our most serious threat yet."
Fianna Fáil Senator Marc Mac Sharry has criticised the decision to close the library, saying it discriminates against Sligo people.
"It is to do to Sligo people what Brussels and Frankfort did to Ireland.
"The presence of a library has greatly added to the wider Ballymote community. Students use it as a learning resource while members of the public also use its internet facilities.
"Which library is next to close? These cutbacks cannot continue. The government’s relentless attack on the people of Sligo must stop now."
Don't worry Grace. They may take your library, but they can never take away your love of books.
We hope it all works out for Ballymote Library, it sounds like an amazing place.
