1916 Rising tricolour among Whyte lots

With everything from a Sinn Féin Tricolour flown over one of the buildings occupied by the Irish Volunteers during the 1916 Rising, a 1916 ambulance log; to carved Iron Age stone heads and an ancient gold Torc, Whyte’s History and Literature sale in Dublin on this day week covers an enormous span of time.

There are 17th century maps, volunteer belts and buttons, General Maxwell’s dress uniforms as Colonel and General of the Black Watch (42nd) Royal Highland Regiment alongside a West Limerick Brigade IRA tactical map and prison albums with insights into conditions in internment camps.

Among these is a 1920 album from Wormwood Scrubs signed by WT Cosgrave and a 1916 album from Frongoch which includes a full page written by Michael Collins.

Viewing is at Whyte’s on Molesworth St from 10 am to 5 pm next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and the auction will be held at Freemason’s Hall on Molesworth St. at 11am next Saturday.
