Online and in the shops: Frozen mania

When optimist Anna set off on her epic journey to find her sister Elsa, just before Christmas last year, few would have predicted that Disney’s Frozen would become the top grossing animated film of all time, with merchandise flying off the shelves for captivated young fans.

Online and in the shops: Frozen mania

Fighting fit: While 54% of Irish adults exercise between three and five times a week on their own, almost a third (32%) of adults with children never take part in any physical activities with their family. New research has found that nearly two-thirds (59%) of Irish families consider shopping to be their number one family activity, while 41% spend less than one hour per week engaged in physical exercise as a family. The survey was undertaken to mark Aviva Health’s sponsorship of Ireland’s Fittest Family on RTÉ One; families can get tips on how to be more active via www.avivahealth.ie/health-hub. Meanwhile, Lidl’s range of wind and waterproof winter and skiwear returned to stores yesterday (while stocks last) and includes thermal underwear (from €2.49), fleece jackets (from €4.99), toddler snowsuits, €9.99 and children’s jackets, €14.99; www.lidl.ie/

Top skills: This brightly coloured skills board from Janod is now available at Mimitoys. Well-sized for small hands, it offers six different dressing activities – button, snap fastener, belt, zip, shoelaces and click-in belt – and comes in both boy and girl versions, age 3+, €24.95; www.mimitoys.ie

Shoebox appeal: The Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal, helps bring joy to some of the world’s poorest children. Each year Irish families, school and communities come together and to date, have packed and sent almost 2.8 million shoeboxes to Africa and Eastern Europe. To join in the appeal, people are being asked to wrap a shoebox with Christmas paper, fill it with gifts for a child, attach €4 and bring it to any of the 300 drop off points across the country before November 10. Suggestions for what can be put in, include loom bands, pens, pencils, colouring books, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, a small item of clothing and a surprise or treat; www.teamhope.ie
