Eastern promise for ceramics and art

Sotheby’s, which sold a black ground Famille Rose bowl from the Alfred Beit Foundation for £434,500 (about €540,000) in London in November, will hold valuation days for Chinese ceramics and art in Dublin on September 1 and 2.

Eastern promise for ceramics and art

Sotheby’s Chinese specialist Angela McAteer, who was born in Dublin, will offer free appraisals by appointment at Sotheby’s Dublin offices on Molesworth St.

“We’ve seen strong results for Chinese works sourced in Ireland,” she said. “If anyone has an object around the house that they might have previously overlooked in terms of its potential value — the ceramic lamp stand by the bed, the brush pot still in use, the water bowl in the kitchen or that special pride of place, family heirloom in the living room — its worth showing it to us.”
