Cork World Book Fest Highlights 2014

Celebrating ten years in existence, the Cork World Book Fest (April 22-26), organised by Cork City Library and Triskel Christchurch, is one of the city’s most popular cultural events.

It will be officially opened by Lord Mayor Catherine Clancy at the City Library, followed by an event called ‘The Irish Diaspora’ where Irish-Canadian novelist Anakana Schofield will read from her debut novel and American writer, Nicole Kelby, will read from her latest novel. Schofield’s novel, ‘Malarky’ won the Amazon.ca first novel award and the Debut-Litzer Prize for Fiction last year. Kelby’s novel, ‘The Pink Suit’ is based on the story behind Jackie Kennedy’s suit which became iconic, albeit for tragic reasons.

British writer Jane Gardam will read from and discuss her acclaimed trilogy at Triskel Christchurch on April 25. Her latest novel, ‘Last Friends’ is the final book in the trilogy, following ‘Old Filth (FILTH –Failed in London Try Hong Kong) and ‘The Man in the Wooden Hat.’ At City Library on April 26, Glenn Patterson will read from his new novel, ‘The Rest Just Follows’ which is a coming-of-age story set in 1970s Belfast.
