350-year-old lowboy — the one for you boy
A piece of furniture which has done trojan service for more than 350 years is a feature lot at Woodward’s sale in Cork next Wednesday (March 12) at 6pm. A circa 1660 lowboy in oak with walnut veneer is estimated at €500-€1,000. This sale promises to be strong in furniture.
There is a set of Cork 11-bar chairs (€2,000-€3,000); a Georgian burr elm bureau (€750-€1,000); an inlaid walnut credenza (€500-€1,000); a mahogany and walnut linen press (€700-€1,000); a long triple pillar dining table (€700-€1,000), and a set of eight Georgian dining chairs (€1,000-€2,000) among the lots on offer.
In a more modernist vein, Woodward’s will offer a pair of Eileen Gray chrome adjustable tables, named by the designer as E1027. These can also be used as bed tables. There is a large artwork by Arthur Maderson where the artist returns to one of his favourite scenes, the Tallow Horse Fair.
It is estimated at €3,000-€5,000. The sale features art by Gretta O’Brien and Phillip Gray as well as collectibleitems.
It is on view from 2 pm to 5pm today and from 10 am to 5pm next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
