230 lots at Bantry sale

Competition for the best pieces was notable at Dolan’s sale at Ballynahinch Castle last Bank Holiday Monday. On offer in Bantry tomorrow is a selection of more than 230 lots.

Artworks by Mark O’Neill, Arthur Maderson and Graham Knuttel usually attract plenty of interest but there is art in all price ranges, to cater for all tastes.

The auction will include 14 lots from the studio of artist Val Byrne, to be sold without reserve and works from a couple of private collections, also to be sold without reserve.

At Ballynahinch Castle the top lot was a pen and ink drawing by Yeats which made €14,000, well ahead of the top estimate of €12,000.

A bronze mortar rarity inscribed in 1631 to commemorate a marriage between the Browne and Joyce families made €8,250. The auction was 90% sold.
