We’re absolutely head over heels for these luxe lippies from Yves Saint Laurent. Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains are spendy at €33 each and with 20 fruity shades on offer, you’re going to want more than one. Not quite a gloss but more than a tint, these give great colour to lips, plus some shine and they stick about for a good couple of hours too.
Arguably, she inspired Urban Decay and the current frenzy for all things neutral, so it’s nice to see Bobbi Brown back with a great new offering. The Ultra Nude Eye Palette, €47, is part of spring’s Neons and Nudes collection and brightens things up with some fluoro trim — we like.
New this month from Roger and Gallet is Eau des Bienfaits, €33. More than a mere fragrance, you can use this scent as a skin treat too: combining the properties of aromachology with the scent of blood orange and violet, kiwi and ginseng are used to tone skin and add hydration. It’s fresh, zingy and a great wake-me-up in the morning.
You can’t help but have heard about BB Creams: they’re super-hot right now and these beauty or blemish balms — hence the BB moniker — are four- or five-in-one products that make old-school tinted moisturisers look decidedly wimpy. Depending on the product you can expect some coverage, UV protection, oil control or hydration benefits plus skin-refining properties. Here are three to try.
1. No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream, €15.95, comes in two shades and caters for three skin types. SPF 15 and five star UV protection round out the offering.
2 Estée Lauder Daywear Antioxidant BB Creme SPF35, €40, boasts a high protection level as well as brightening optics and light-reflective pearls.
3 Clinique Age Defense BB Cream with SPF30, €32, launches on Feb 17, will come in two shades and will have oil- and irritation-reduction capabilities.
It’s true, there are a lot of saccharine shades about right now and it can all be a bit cartooney unless you use a very light hand.
Lesley Keane, Mac senior artist, right, says the new season way to tangle with tangerine, mint green and powder blue is to blend, blend, blend.
“Don’t use too much, and make sure colour is perfectly blended out. It should look almost transparent, like sheets of fine fabric.
To make it look modern, take the shadow under the eye as well.”
Lesley also suggests off-kilter juxtapositions of colour, like wash of dove grey on the eye and a green pout.
Before you take fright, check out Lancôme’s wearable Color Fever Gloss in Green Petal, €20, which adds just a hint of iridescent sparkle to lips.
