Deep hues with metallic accents sound hard to wear on eyes, but the evidence at the Jason Wu runway show is all to the contrary. Silver and gold accents are bang on-trend for autumn and look incredible patted on top of a finished eye. “A vibrant gold highlight amidst a deeply shadowed eye gives a baroque twist to a simple look,” advises Mac make-up artist Diane Kendal. Too much? Use a flick of cream liner lightly on top of lashes instead, or a wash of deeply pigmented shimmer-packed shadow for light-catching impact.

Fresh, pretty skin was much in evidence at Alexander Wang’s Autumn/Winter show at New York Fashion Week and it’s a look that appeals to preppy types as much as those who like to stay out all night. Perfected by Mac artist Diane Kendal, she had this to say of the trend: “She’s a bit rock ‘n’ roll, while being young, fresh and simple.” But as anyone who’s ever gone for the no-make-up look knows, it takes good products to look this flawless.
