Have you spotted your surname on packets of Tayto crisps at your local supermarket yet?

Tayto has released limited-edition packets of crisps featuring 12 popular Irish surnames, which are now available to purchase in stores.

The names that appear on the Tayto crisp packets include: Murphy; Kelly; O’Brien; Walsh; Byrne; Ryan; O’Connor; O’Sullivan; Doyle; McCarthy; O’Neill; and O’Reilly.

The surnames feature that of the man who founded Tayto back in 1954. Joe ‘Spud’ Murphy established Tayto at a time when most crisps were imported from the UK and were unflavoured bar the small blue bag of salt included in each bag to enhance the flavour.

Spotting a niche in the Irish market, Murphy set up his own crisp factory. Credited with inventing the first ever cheese and onion flavoured crisps, the brand name Tayto has become synonymous with crisps across Ireland.

Mr Tayto Ireland revealed the new ‘top 12 most popular surnames in Ireland’ campaign on social media on Wednesday.

“Run, don't walk to your nearest store! If one of these is your surname make sure you find it and frame it! For a limited time only,” Mr Tayto Ireland wrote in the caption of the carousel post on Instagram.

People rushed to the comment section of the post to share their delight that their surname is featured and to request that Tayto expand the number of surnames to include theirs.

The campaign will run in stores across Ireland for a limited time only.
