Terroir is this wonderful French word that roughly translates to ‘a sense of place’, and is used to regulate (and laud) everything from the fine wine regions of France, to the chickens of Bresse to the grey-green lentils grown in Le Puy in the Auvergne.

Terroir doesn’t just include the soil and the climate it also includes the people, the farmers, the winemakers and everyone involved in the production of their fine products.
