Gin of the week: Blackwater Juniper Cask Gin, 46% ABV; 500ml — €42

I’ve praised Blackwater Distillery Gin here before and their limited edition Strawberry Gin was a highlight of my summer.

Time to mention their Juniper Cask aged gin which should appeal to the old-school Tanqueray G&T drinker as much as the Millennial trend- chasing, cocktail fiend.

Distiller Peter Mulryan commissioned special casks made from Juniper barrels (tiny, given the size of a juniper bush) and this gin ages in them for 30 days.

Pure intense juniper aroma as you would expect but also with a freshly sanded wood shavings background aroma.

On the palate this has a pleasing juniper hit up front with a sweet woody character on the middle and a fresh juniper kick on the finish.

A distinctive, unusual, very tasty gin.
