Minister appoints new chairperson to Irish National Stud board

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon with David Mongey, newly appointed Chairperson of the Board of the Irish National Stud.

David Mongey has been appointed by minister Martin Heydon as chairperson of the board of the Irish National Stud (INS).

Mr Mongey is the CEO and owner of Mongey Communications and is the current chairman of Punchestown Racecourse, where he has played a key role in the development of the facility for both racing and non-racing activity.

He was also the former chairman of Kildare Failte, the tourism body supported by Kildare County Council to promote the county both nationally and internationally.

Minister Heydon congratulated Mr Mongey on his appointment: “I am delighted to make this appointment. 

"David has a wealth of experience in the thoroughbred industry and tourism sector and is well-versed in the stud’s activities through his current role as chair of the INS Audit and Risk Committee. I wish David every success during his term of office and look forward to working closely with him over the next five years.” 

Mr Mongey succeeds the late Dan Flinter as chairperson. Paying tribute to his contribution to the INS, the minister said: "We were privileged to have Dan chairing the INS Board since 2023, during which time he made a significant contribution to the work of the stud and the Irish thoroughbred industry.” 

Mr Mongey was appointed INS chairperson following a competitive selection process overseen by publicjobs.
