Farmers seek clarity on EU compensation for beef farming collapse
Beef farmers need clarity on how much compensation they are to receive from Government and the EU to soften Brexit-related beef price cuts incurred since last autumn, said IFA livestock chair Angus Woods.
Mr Woods was speaking at a farmer protest at the Irish Farmers Journal Beef Summit in Galway.
He urged Agriculture Minister Michael Creed to deliver a €100m direct payment aid package for beef farmers.
“In Cork last week, the Taoiseach told IFA the Government has put forward a support package for Brexit beef losses.
“Minister Creed needs to tell farmers the details of what he is seeking from Government and the EU Commission and outline the time lines involved and when farmers can expect to get paid.”
The IFA is seeking delivery of an expected targeted support of €200 per cow to ease the pressure both in terms of numbers and income at farm level.
