Glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide in the world, has come under close scrutiny in its “home country”, in a four-day review before Christmas by 15 scientists.

They were assembled by the US Environmental Protection Agency to analyse glyphosate’s cancer-causing potential, but they struggled to reach consensus.

The scientists now have three months to make a formal recommendation to the US EPA, which could strongly influence the agency’s eventual decision on new glyphosate restrictions.
